Stashes
DayZ characters are temporary. Stashes are the real persistence. If all your ammo lives on your body, the next death is a full reset.
Split kits
One crate with a gun, a little food, and a backpack. Another crate elsewhere. A single mega-stash is a treasure map for whoever sees you dig.
Do not stash next to a well or a highway bush. Those get walked.
Landmarks you can find at night
A unique rock, a wreck, a tree line shape. GPS helps, but you should still recognize the spot when the battery is dead.
Write the coords somewhere that is not only in your drowned character’s notes.
Visit, do not live there
AFK at the stash is how you get sniped by the person who followed you from town. Grab, leave, play.
